Importing the Easy Way
Well you’ve probably read some of my ventures with importing, and yes I’ve been burnt.
Thankfully it was only at sample stage, and although my experience was not an unpleasant one, I just felt as if I was wasting my precious time and money on something that wasn’t going very far with my nappy manufacturing.
So here I am wanting to start over with my nappy manufacture.
This time I have decided to outsource the project to the lovely Jackie from http://www.joltconsulting.com.au/
The team at Jolt have over 20 years combined experience and make sure you achieve your fullest potential. I have had nothing but pleasant dealings with Jackie and feel I am in the most capable of hands and am very keen on working with her and the Jolt team.
When it comes to business, the one thing that stuck in my head was to outsource. By giving Jolt this project, I feel a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders, and I can now concentrate on other things that needs doing.
Mini Mass Cloth Pad Stocking
I finally have what I think is a decent enough amount of pads to re-stock.
Stocking will be held at 9pm tonight (2/7/09)
There are limited prints, only because I have this obsession that when I need to produce in bulk, I have to finish the one print that I’ve got before starting another LOL.
Yes just in time!!
I was worried about not having much stock to list with my new website, but I am just about to go and pick up 100 pairs of breast pads! It feels so good not having to think about making them.
It’s gonna be some stocking
As much as I hate not knowing when my “technical team” are ready to test my new site, it has given me some much needed time to stock up quite generously.
This is what just over 100 pads looks like

I even managed to finish a whole bolt of fabric on the bottom blue/green print. And I have timed myself during this hard slug, if I cut during the day I manage to complete 15-20 pads by night (thank god kids still sleep during the day).
Other things I have been working on, I managed to embroider 3 nappy cuts in 3 hrs! What was I thinking about when getting designs that have a close to 1hr stitch out time?!
But end result is absolutely stunning;

Oh wouldn’t it be nice to have a girl!
The ball is rolling……
Not only is the website being upgraded but we are also finally closer to getting our products made by an external offshore contractor…..did I see you cringe?
There’s absolutely nothing to worry about, I have made sure this contractor not only produces quality work but works under ethical conditions. There is no slave labour, each and every employee is paid a proper wage and some of the fabrics being used are certified under IMO (Institute For Marketecology).
I am also going to “hire” some consultants who can inspect the factory for me whilst my products are being made, so rest assured my product is not only ethical but so are the conditions of it being made.
Why I am heading down this path;
Obviously I cannot meet demand and really am I not working under slave labour myself sewing every night until early hrs of the morning so my hands start to suffer from that terrible dermatitis and not getting paid a “proper” wage? It only makes sense to have my product made where the actual fabric is being made…does it not?
Why haven’t I sourced something local;
Believe me I have, and have had nothing but a run around by this “professional” who does already sew for 3 other known nappy/pad brands. I’ll post pics later on to show you exactly why I think Australia made doesn’t always equal great quality especially for the price I have to pay.
So my decision is made….no more umming and ahhhing, time to set up the proper paperwork and contcat the relevant authorities to MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN!
