Yes just in time!!

May 31, 2009 at 11:39 pm (General, Sewing) ()

I was worried  about not having much stock  to list with my new website, but I am just about to go and pick up 100 pairs of breast pads!  It feels so good not having to think about making them.

It’s gonna be some stocking

May 28, 2009 at 5:05 am (General, Sewing) (, )

As much as I hate not knowing when my “technical team” are ready to test my new site, it has given me some much needed time to stock up quite generously.

This is what just over 100 pads looks like

I even managed to finish a whole bolt of fabric on the bottom blue/green print.  And I have timed myself during this hard slug, if I cut during the day I manage to complete 15-20 pads by night (thank god kids still sleep during the day).

Other things I have been working on, I managed to embroider 3 nappy cuts in 3 hrs!  What was I thinking about when getting designs that have a close to 1hr stitch out time?!

But end result is absolutely stunning;

Oh wouldn’t it be nice to have a girl!

Getting there

May 25, 2009 at 3:50 am (General)

I have now over 100 pads in stock and waiting to be listed when my brand spanking new website is up and running! With many more coming.
And finally just 3 more nappies to complete for my custom order.

I feel a lot less stressed and feel I am now able to move on with my homework that has been set by my business coach and my R & D work on my “golden oil” that I am working on.

Oh so close

May 13, 2009 at 2:04 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

I am so close to ordering, I just received another batch of samples from my offshore contractor, and low and behold she has a minky fabric in stock!
I have never felt anything so soft in my life, it sure would be lush for babies bottoms. So that now changes things abit as I have to have that fabric!
So my list of things to order from her so far;
Fitted Nappies made from bamboo velvet – working on it.
AIO Nappies made from pul outer and either the minky lining or bamboo velvet lining (for natural inner) or maybe both.
Wet bags – done perfectly…I am ready to order those LOL
PUL covers – still testing here. Will have minky covers as well.
Prefolds – ready to order.
I can finally say I am moving from the standard bamboo fleece here as I find it deteriorates rather quickly (especially with acidic urine) and shrinks alot. Bamboo velvet has a higher composition of bamboo (92%) and only 8% poly which faces the wrong side (so away from babies skin) and keeps it stable.
And the pul is sooo much more stretchier than what we get here, love it all.

The ball is rolling……

May 8, 2009 at 1:06 am (General, Sewing)

Not only is the website being upgraded but we are also finally closer to getting our products made by an external offshore contractor…..did I see you cringe?

There’s absolutely nothing to worry about, I have made sure this contractor not only produces quality work but works under ethical conditions.  There is no slave labour, each and every employee is paid a proper wage and  some of the fabrics being used are certified under IMO (Institute For Marketecology).

I am also going to “hire” some consultants who can inspect the factory for me whilst my products are being made, so rest assured my product is not only ethical but so are the conditions of it being made.

Why I am heading down this path;

Obviously I cannot meet demand and really am I not working under slave labour myself sewing every night until early hrs of the morning so my hands start to suffer from that terrible dermatitis and not getting paid a “proper” wage?  It only makes sense to have my product made where the actual fabric is being made…does it not?

Why haven’t I sourced something local;

Believe me I have, and have had nothing but a run around by this “professional” who does already sew for 3 other known nappy/pad brands.  I’ll post pics later on to show you exactly why I think Australia made doesn’t always equal great quality especially for the price I have to pay.

So my decision is made….no more umming and ahhhing, time to set up the proper paperwork and contcat the relevant authorities to MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN!

I have a sparkle in my eye

May 3, 2009 at 5:50 am (General) (, , )

I am working extremely hard to have plenty of stock available when I re-open.

I am having so much fun with my embroidery machine, and my metallic threads.  They are turning out beautifully and ***knock on wood*** my machine is behaving.

Some of my latest creations;

Of course there are boyish stuff coming…but I just loved these I had to show them off.
